A Pakistani national is Arrested for allegedly issuing Fraudulent Passports

A Pakistan national who is, allegedly behind the syndicate faking passports and asylum documents, has been arrested. It has emerged that he is working hand in hand with corrupt Home Affairs Officers. The arrest took place on the 24th of March 2022. The Hawks raided his house at night in Krugersdorp, Gauteng; where around additional 30 suspects were also arrested.   Alleged Pakistan is married to a South African who stays in Eldorado Park. The Home Affairs Minister, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi said they are criminals and they will face charges in terms of the Identification Act and in terms of the Immigration Act.

It has emerged that the South Africans are selling their identities to undocumented migrants, for example when a migrant needs a passport, the South Africans, give their fingerprints but use the passport size picture of the foreigner who needs a passport, the same applies to the asylum seekers.

Earlier in March 2022 the Home Affairs Minister, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi indicated that the issue of citizens and foreign nationals has become a serious crisis as it’s not possible to know how many illegal immigrants live in South Africa

Of late we have seen legislative amendments, new immigration laws, and regulations taking place at the Home Affairs department. The loopholes in the immigration department were making it possible for migrants and other illegal foreigners to apply for fraudulent documents using a back door with the help of corrupt Home Affairs workers

Take a look at some of the changes below;

i)             Scrapping of  the Zimbabwean Exemption Permits (ZEP) which expired on 31 December 2021

ii)            All categories of “temporary” residence permits are now referred to as “visas.” This was amended to distinguish clearly between short-stay visas and permanent residence permits. The only permits to remain are permanent residence permits, for a longer stay.

iii)           It is not permitted to change of status or visa terms and conditions from within South Africa, otherwise you need to back to your country and apply from there.

iv)          Anyone traveling with a minor will be required to possess an unabridged birth certificate of the minor, and written consent from the parent or parents authorizing such travel.

v)            Home affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi has moved to cancel a waiver that allowed some foreign-born graduates to stay in SA indefinitely.

vi)          Home affairs minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi said there was no obligation to grant citizenship to children born to foreign nationals
