Six Members of Operation Dudula Movement Granted Bail by Alexandra Court

Six members of Operation Dudula who were arrested on the 7th of March 2022 for causing havoc and demonstrating against what they say is the employment of migrant workers over South Africans have been released on bail.

Their first appearance in court was on March 10 and the accused were remanded in custody to appear on March 17 for a bail application.

The incident took place in Alexandra, Pan African Mall. The Dudula protestors wanted the stalls occupied by the migrant owners to be dominated by South Africans. They were moving from shop to shop shutting down businesses owned by migrants.

The Alexandra Magistrate’s Court granted bail of R1000 each yesterday, the 23rd of March 2022. Their legal representatives who came all the way from Bloemfontein in the Free State province, fought for their bail to be reduced from an initial amount of R3 000 each to R1 000 each
